The Or Gallery presents the kind of fundraiser event you've been waiting for - a chance to show your support for contemporary art by DANCING!
Collect pledges to win fabulous prizes! Impress your friends with your swell dance moves! Dance the night away! (well, until 1am anyway).
DO THE HUSTLE is a dance-a-thon fundraiser where contestants will collect pledges to dance over a five-hour period. All contestants are eligible for various prizes, including a grand prize for the dancer who earns the highest amount of pledges.
Individuals not directly participating in the dance-a-thon are also welcome to attend and show their support. 100% of the proceeds from this event will help support the Or Gallery and its programming.

Check back here soon for more info about dance prizes. We'll have grand prizes for the winner who earns the highest amount of pledges as well as for the top dance team. Contestants will also be awarded the night of for their sweet sweet dance moves.
All contestants will receive one of our artist edition pins designed by Christy Nyiri, and dancers that raise a minimum of $30 will get an Or Gallery tote bag!
WHAT IS THE HUSTLE?
According to its wikipedia entry: "The Hustle is a catchall name for several disco dances which were extremely popular in the 1970s.
"Based on older dances such as the mambo, the Hustle originated in Hispanic communities in New York City and Florida in the 1970s. This was originally a line dance with a Salsa-like foot rhythm, that after some fusion with swing and eventual shortening of the count to "&1 2 3", became the present "New York" Hustle."

DO THE HUSTLE is a dance-a-thon in the tele-thon or walk-a-thon sense - contestants collect pledges from friends, family, neighbours, and coworkers to dance for five hours. Their contributions are tax-deductible and the pledges you earn make you eligible for a number of great prizes! We have goodies for those bringing in $5-$100 in pledges and then a whole list of fun and unique prizes for the top pledge earners.
HOW DO TEAMS WORK? You can also collaborate with up to three friends to make a team of dancers. This means that in addition to winning prizes for your own pledges, you also get to pool your pledges with your friends to compete for team prizes.
I COULD NOT GET IT TOGETHER TO COLLECT PLEDGES. CAN I STILL COME? If you haven't raised any pledges but still want to come to the event, why not pledge yourself for $5 instead of paying admission? You will automatically be entered into a raffle prize and receive an artist edition pin!

Want to support the event but don't know who to pledge? Just type "random" in the donation details and we'll assign it randomly to a lucky dance contestant.
