In Holding, Marian Penner Bancroft’s installation juxtaposes photographs of the Hatzic Rock, a sacred native site which is not under excavation and rubbings from the land around her home. The archaeological references in her presentation provoke a timely discussion into the nature of these two practices (archaeology and visual arts) as contentious purveyors of cultural representations.
