Please join us for the Vancouver launch and discussion of the documenta 14 Learning from Athens education department publication (Archive Books: Berlin, 2018) with Head of Education, Sepake Angiama.

As a primary discursive site within the documenta 14 programming, aneducation aimed to complicate the politics of “knowing” as institutional practice through the daily embodied practices of listening, walking, gesticulating, performing, doing and reading. The book brings together voices from the documenta 14 education program – including the aneducation team and documenta 14 Chorus, as well as curators, artists, and educators – that speak from different positions on aneducation and present desires for other sites of learning.

Angiama will be joined by Simranpreet Anand, Jenn Jackson, and Laurie White, former students from UBC’s Department of Visual Art, Art History and Theory, who conducted internships in Athens and Kassel during the exhibition. Focussing on three questions that were central to the aneducation vision – What shifts? What drifts? What remains? – the discussion will revisit the program, consider the role of education for large biennial exhibitions, and enact a few speculative gestures within the space of the Or Gallery bookstore.
