The Bag Gallery

April 2005 – ongoing

Guelph, Ontario. Canada.

The Bag gallery is a clear plastic bag custom designed to house and display up to 16 4X6 images. It is ideal for photos, drawings, or images on acetate, though it could also be used to showcase a small sculpture or installation inside of it - not too heavy, though, as I still hope to use it as a functional bag. So whatever goes inside it would, ideally, co-exist with my personal belongings, groceries, etc.  If images are sent to be displayed, the artist should be aware that they may be damaged due to use, weather, or unforseen circumstances, so we can't guarantee that they will be returned in their original state.

How the Project Started:

The Bag Gallery is currently in the process of being started up by myself, Kerri Reid, and my boyfriend, Chris McCarroll.

Themes, Ideas, Strategies:

Artists should consider the context of this gallery, and are asked to explain not only the content of their work, but also the ideal audience. If possible, we will take the bag to this audience, be it people on the street or bus, or in a specific institution. As we are currently residing in Guelph , Ontario , nearby areas are prefered, though the gallery itself is available to be sent via mail to satellite shows/locations. A bag gallery web site - currently in progress - will showcase the artists and their work, and will also provide documentation of the gallery in action.

How To Get Involved:

I am currently going to school in Guelph, Ontario. The Bag Gallery is primarily located There. However, the gallery is extremely portable and can be taken with me wherever I go, such as on trips to Toronto , etc. It is also available to be sent via mail to a satellite show or location anywhere.
