Other:

Galerie Largeness may reasonably appear to be an art gallery, but one that in its form remained both portable and mutable. Galerie Largeness may appear to be a magazine, but one whose content did not function as reportage, but was in every case work prepared by artists especially for publication at the Galerie. Galerie Largeness may appear to be an archive, in that it presented in a unified context the work characteristic of a determinate time and place. But it was an archive whose scope was neither documentary nor retrospective: the life of Largeness was about the involvement it required on the part of the dozens and dozens of artists and artist-curators who participated in it over the years, and the everyday strategies and negotiations it required to sustain it

In 1999 during an artists' panel discussion at the University of Western Ontario , I described myself to the audience as “an artist working as curator, publisher of artists' multiples, writer, organiser, and studio artist”. This range of activities is what constitutes my artistic practise. At any given time, many of us are publisher-as-artist, or curator-as-artist, or community-organizer-as-artist, or crate-builder-as-artist, or educator-as-artist, or archivist-as-artist -- as well as being traditional studio-artists. Running through all of these functions is the idea that the work of an artist is not exclusively the production of objects, but the making-dynamic of the culture in which we live. These various activities form the reality of what constitues our artistic work.
