Little Blue Gallery

February, 2005 - gallery will be run year-round, on an everyday basis

Vancouver, BC, Canada and Costa Rica (starting July 2005)

Little Blue Gallery is an on-going backpack gallery. It was purchased at the MOMA, and since then has hosted the art of several of friends and strangers alike. So far, the gallery has been exhibiting primarily the work of Emily Carr students and alumni. The gallery exists according to my need for a backpack. The idea is not to stop the functionality of the backpack as such, but to enhance it with the display of works.

How the Project Started:

Little Blue Gallery started as a way to subvert traditional gallery settings, arise spatial awareness, but most importantly it was founded on the principle of show and tell.

Themes, Ideas, Strategies:

I am interested in work that raises assumptions for the viewer, as well as work that challenges my task as a gallery carrier.

Artists, Curators, Collaborators, Conspirators:

The work shown in LBG comes from practicing artists and students. I held a call of submissions, and received various works from strangers that way to.

Shows, Events, Happenings:

1. Nam Nyungen (a watercolour monochrome) 2. Shiloh Sukkau (breakfast) consisting of a boiled egg. 3. Shiloh Sukkau (mexican wrestlers, plastic figurines) 4. Monique Mouton (Polaroid frame, Polaroid 600) 5. Nicola Bardero (calendar digital print) 6. Daniel Ayaede (erotic robot, c-print) 7. Helen Roberts (alpaca in Peru, snapshot.colour photo) 8. Erik F. Hood (snow, c-print)

Current Show:
Luigi Cabezas (NY, St. Marks, architectural sketch)

Upcoming Shows:

Audience, Reaction, Anecdotes, Stories:

Because I spend most of my time around the school campus, my audience consists of art, design, photography, media and general fine art students and professors. However I do live in the east side, where people from the neighborhood occasionally have the chance to see LBG.
