Portable Exhbition Venues

2002 - 2005

San Francisco, New York, Detroit

This project was created to jog people's preconceived notions of how and where to view art exhibitions. The venues demonstrate the idea that a curated show need not have a stationary space to exist.

Each venue circumvents the usual gallery process and creates and alternative to traditional art spaces. This makes the artwork readily available and accessible to a non-gallery-going public.

Themes, Ideas, Strategies:

The subtle, or hidden, artwork will be worn and transported by the curator Kate Pocrass. The artists will have their pieces shown by Kate wherever she may be. This provides a more intimate, less predictable environment for viewing, and conversation about the work.

The venues are about everyday attire, casual settings, mundane and unspectacular surroundings and people being able to interrupt Kate while she is out doing her daily activites.

How to get involved:

mundanejourneys.com will have up to the minute tracking of Kate's whereabouts. Simply seek her out at a scheduled spot or make and appointment to see a specific venue.
