Solo Polo Tour

I started the Solo-Project-tour in 2003 and called it “Solo-Polo”, because the mobile showroom was built in the back of my VW-“Polo” (which represents a typical German average-man-car of the 90´s!). I was interested to create my own mobile artspace and find a way by it to present my work and the work of other artists independent from the selected shows. I built a white cube-module-case inside my car and turned it into a show-case. The tour was connected to art institutions and galleries at Munich , Vienna , Basel , Leipzig and Meran, where I could park my car. The institutions also invited guest artists to show their work at my space.

How the Project Started:

With the idea of car turning in a independent art exhibition – context !

The Solo-Polo Tour is conceptualized as a single-uncouple or sculpture layer in front of the exhibition house. A wood construction-set inside the car trunk and a turning spoiler outside as a space-front of the VW-Polo. The ”Brake” marked the place where the car is parked in a context of the artwork base.

The temporary showcase as a layer built a single position on the public place, which also asked about the meaning in art on the public space like a car parking place.

I got in touch with the all the artist and collaboration gallery/Institution about my Personal network after my study and research time at the art academy Munich and ZKM/HFG in Karlsruhe, Germany .

In my hometown Munich the car gallery was parked in front of the" FOE 154 Gallery" and the connected artist Eva Ruhland and Alix Stadtbäumer invitedme for a "homegame" (signalflagg"home") inside the car.

LEIPZIG, Kunstraum B2, Baumwollspinnerei
3.10. und 4.10.2003 14-18 Uhr
The stop at Leipzig was connected to "kunstraum b2" and the exhibition "space for nothing" at the famous "Baumwollspinnerei" area. The  "sewingmachine-dog" was shown in a walking performance by myself.

Wien/Vienna, Pool artspace
17.10. und 18.10.2003,18-22h
At Vienna , Austria , Hanna Stippel invited me to park in front of her gallery "pool". There I exhibited works by the german artists Martin Wöhrl "Barbera"(2003, Reservekanister/reserve spare, 20L, Wein/wine) and Wolfgang Stehle

BASEL, Kasko, Warteck pp cultur-center
6.12. und 7.12.2003 16-21 Uhr
At "Warteck pp" ( where also is each year a young art fair"liste" parallel to the Art Basel ,Schweiz) projected the swiss artist Monika Rechsteiner her video "o.t."with norway radio sound on the backwindow of the mobile space.

MERAN, Kunsthaus
10.07.2004,20 Uhr
The last show so far took place in the north of Italy . The italien artist Hannes Gamper performed a pit-stop "boxenstop" a la ferrari withracing-atmosphere (racing-girls, fitting-crew, data-exchange and news-press) in front of "Kunsthaus Meran". Audience, Reactions, Anecdotes, Stories:

The show-case was part of the public space in some way. A show window for people passing by. The most reaction come from a car-fan. These car-freaks took lot of picture for a personal picture-album!
